CityU Dongguan held a Middle-Level Cadre meeting in Conference Room 112 of the Administration Building in October 2021. Chen Chaoqun, the representative of the chairman of the school, and all members of CPC and administrations leadership team, middle-level cadres, as well as secretaries and deputy secretaries of all branches of CPC attended the meeting. Liu Yuxia, Vice President, presided over the meeting and read out the Resolution of the Board of Directors, appointing Dr. Li Shuying as Executive President and Distinguished Chair Professor of CityU Dongguan.

Dr. Li delivered an inauguration speech, appreciating the school board for its trust in him, and highly praised the school's achievements before, which has cultivated a large number of outstanding talents for the country and society.Li shared his rich experience in teaching, research and university management over the past 32 years. He expressed his great honor and responsibility to join CityU Dongguan, and would do his best to make the greatest contribution to the development of the School.

Dr. Li Shuying shared the vision and mission of the school at the meeting. Li believed that the school's vision is to create a "first-class.innovative and application-oriented and internationalized private university", which could be explained by five key words: “first-class”, “innovative”, “application-oriented”, “internationalize” and “private”. He that “To be a top-ranked and time-honored university”is the chairman's hope, which is the real connotation of "first-class". Li indicated that in the era of frequent disruptive technologies and the post-COVID-19, universities should innovate institutional settings and talent training models, enhance the innovative spirit of teachers and students, and cultivate an innovative culture. It’s necessary to apply learning, teaching and researching into practice. Driven by the market, oriented by the employment,, we should strengthen the integration of production, education and research. We should give full play to the flexibility of the system and mechanism of running private colleges and universities, strengthen the characteristics of the layout of disciplines, and focus on the development of market demand. Based on the Greater Bay Area and an international metropolis, rooted in Dongguan, the CityU Dongguan would serve the Bay Area, radiate across the country, and go to the world. He believed that the mission of the school is to cultivate talents with both integrity and ability under the guidance of the school motto,"To be virtuous and pragmatic and achieve the unity between knowing and practicing". Under the care and support of the board of directors, he hoped to make concerted efforts with all teachers, students and staff to promote the transformation and upgrading of the school and write a new chapter of high-quality development.

Mr. Chen Chaoqun, representative of the chairman, delivered an important speech. He firstly extended a warm welcome to Dr. Li Shuying on behalf of the chairman, and said that Dr. Li is a well-known cross-international, cross-regional and cross-cultural expert in higher education management, with a high academic reputation and rich university management practices experience. Chen believed that Li’s joining would make our school to a higher level. Mr.Chen then put forward several expectations for the future development of the school. First is to optimize the system and mechanism, as well as innovate the new model of school development. The second is to improve the quality of teaching and innovate new methods of school education. The third is to strengthen ideological and political construction, and innovate new concepts of student management. The fourth is to innovate new ideas for CityU Dongguan brand building. In the end, Chen hoped that the cadres and all the faculty would concentrate their efforts and strive to promote the school to achieve high-quality development.

Dr. Li Shuying was the first senior leader introduced after our school was successfully transformed into a private institution of higher learning. In the future, the school will continue to vigorously introduce high-level talents, focusing on introducing high-level leading talents, and further promote the strategy of strengthening the university with talents, providing strong intellectual support and talent guarantee for the new development of the university.
